Learning is a process, it isn’t going to happen overnight. It takes work, stress, sweat and time. You cannot compare one person’s highlight reel with your entire story. You cannot compare someone at the top of their game with someone just making their first determined steps. That’s the whole point of this post, and the accompanying video where I share my work from 2009 to now and roast it slowly like a potato in the oven right there for the entire world to see. The video on this topic is here:
Being a content creator is a double-edged sword. We have to consistently “wow” or we die. We have to consistently evolve, or we die. But worst of all, we have to be perfect – or at the least, society’s version of that – or we die. We lose credibility, respect or whatever other word we want to interject here. The less we screw up the more we help others, but the more people we help the larger the pressure to deliver becomes. If you get into your head, even just for a minute or two, you can crack.
I’m learning and evolving and growing just like you, and I have been on the same process ever since the very start. It’s ok to have rough days and feel like everything is going wrong and nothing is going right. It’s also ok to hold your hands up and say, “Yes, I f***d up.” We are only human and we must always try to be a better version of ourselves yesterday.
So if you’re sat here today, like I am, feeling like you can’t do it because something isn’t going absolutely perfectly, just remember that 1, 2, 5, 7, 15 years ago, you’d never have thought you’d get to where you are now, and look how far you’ve come!
If you are going to compare yourself to something, compare yourself to you yesterday and nothing else.
To try to make everyone feel capable, confident and able, I’ve delved into the depths of my archives to find photographs. Below is a timeline of my learning, the process, from very very bad to not half bad. 2020’s images are all winners at competition level, the same is true for 2021’s images. Enjoy this gallery, laugh if you want to – I don’t mind – but just know that if you keep going, you might just do something magical ❤️
(apologies, this is literally all I can find!)
Not a shooting this year. If you know, you know.
