CHALLENGE REVIEW TIME! Oh yes, it’s the first Friday of the month and that means that it’s time to go through the last month’s Challenge entries, allocate those Pins (if you’re lost, check this page here), and announce the next month’s challenge.

The January challenge was about Emotion. I asked you to submit images that would hit me with an emotion as soon as I saw them, portraying a feeling with power and elegance. You delivered! The images were going to be assessed on this point along with “the usual” things like composition, technical correctness and more. To be honest, the points I look at are pretty much the same as those used in international awards – a post on how to win those can be found here.

The video covering the entires, critique, Pins AND the February challenge can be found here:

As usual, it takes more than one shortlist to whittle down and in this case, the first shortlist ran through the “Emotion” part of the challenge. It ended up here. Congratulations to all who made the first list!

The Short Shortlist consisted of these stunning images which met the “Emotion” challenge head-on, whilst retaining awesome composition, technical skill and editing finesse. Every single one of these images met the bronze criteria but there can only be 3 on top:

Therefore, the top 3 were: (If you don’t know what Pins are, please check out the section on pins here.)

LOOK AT THEM! They’re SO GOOD!

But what is February’s challenge? Well, this months challenge is:

The “Home” Challenge.

The aim of this months challenge is to create an image that shows me what home means to you. It can be indoor or outdoor, with any subject, but it should show the world “this is home to me”. Some say home is where the heart is, other say home is wagging tails and muddy paws, others say home is in the forest with beaut backlight seeping through the pines.

The subject does not have to be a dog – I repeat, the subject can be anything at all.

This challenge has the power to really, really push you. It won’t be easy but man, it’ll be worth it!

How to enter:

  • Stricly ONE entry per person.
  • Shoot or select an image shot within the last 12 months.
  • Post your piece to Instagram and tag @thattogspot in the image.
  • In the description/caption, use the hashtag #ThatTogSpotChallenge
  • (optional) Share the post to your story (bonus points for adding a before and after) and tag @thattogspot and #ThatTogSpotChallenge in the story
  • Entries close at midnight (UK time) on the last day of February

Judging:

The image will be judged on all the normal things (composition, focus, exposure, editing quality (not quantity!) and white balance) in line with Print comps. As always, no purchased assets are allowed – these include overlays, composite elements and brushes. The judging will take place at the start of March and the judges decision is final.

Good luck!
