Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t throw us any more surprises, it seems that it had just one more waiting to throw out at me when I least expected it. This week I received two emails, a day apart. The first one read:

Congratulations Jessica!

From the thousands of stunning entries into the Image of the Month competition throughout 2020, the Judges have selected just 10 images in each genre to be shortlisted as Finalists in the ‘Image of the Year’ Competition. We are delighted to inform you that you have been selected as a Finalist in the Equine category with your attached image.

I was so surprised that a) a pony photo of mine had been selected as a top 10 in the category and b) that a pony photo had achieved top 10 but none of my puppa photos had. I couldn’t quite work out my emotions on this – elation on one side and a slight pang of disappointment on the other! Then, email two came through the following day:

We are delighted to inform you that you have been selected as a Finalist in the Pets category with your attached images.

To reach the final is clearly a remarkable achievement when you consider the number of entries we have had and the tremendously high standards we have witnessed all year!

HOLY MOLY GUYS!

I can’t describe how overwhelming it was to have not one, not two, but THREE images through to the top 10 in the pets category, and moreover, that all three are client dogs on client shoots! Molly, Ryoka and Dora were absolute stars to work with and I couldn’t be more chuffed.

The Guild goes on to say:

One of the Guild’s aims is to drive standards and creativity amongst photographers. Our competition certainly does that, for the standard of the entries we see each month is quite staggering. To have an image recognised by the Guild in the monthly competition is difficult enough, so to have an image selected as being one of the best in a category for the end of year Final is, without doubt, an incredible achievement

The awards ceremony is on the 6th of February, so we’ll see what happens there but for now, I couldn’t be happier that this season’s work has been accepted so well by both the Guild and the MPA.

Here’s to 2021 ?
