CHALLENGE REVIEW TIME! It’s time to go through the last month’s Challenge entries, allocate those Pins (if you’re lost, check this page here), and announce the next month’s challenge!

The February challenge centred around home. I asked you to submit images that portrayed what home means to you. I know a lot of you found this challenge SUPER hard, but I think the creativity and dedication to return an entry was absolutely insane! The images were going to be assessed with “the usual” things like composition, technical correctness and more in mind. To be honest, the points I look at are pretty much the same as those used in international awards – a post on how to win those can be found here.

The video covering the entires, critique, Pins AND the March challenge can be found here:

As usual, it takes more than one shortlist to whittle down and in this case, the first shortlist ran through pretty standard compositional elements along with clipped highlights and shadows. Congratulations to all who made the first list!

The Short Shortlist consisted of these stunning images which displayed awesome composition, technical skill and editing finesse. Every single one of these images met the bronze criteria but there can only be 3 on top:

Therefore, the top 3 were: (If you don’t know what Pins are, please check out the section on pins here.)

LOOK AT THEM! They’re SO GOOD!

But what is March’s challenge? Well, this months challenge is:

The “Last Year” Challenge.

The aim of this months challenge is to submit the image that you are most proud of from the last year, or the image that you think is the best based on the criteria we usually look at here. It can be indoor or outdoor, with any subject, but it should be an image that you have created in the last 12 months (March 2020 to March 2021).

The subject does not have to be a dog – I repeat, the subject can be anything at all.

I’m really hoping that we see lots and lots of entries from everyone!

How to enter:

  • Stricly ONE entry per person.
  • Shoot or select an image shot within the last 12 months.
  • Post your piece to Instagram and tag @thattogspot in the image.
  • In the description/caption, use the hashtag #ThatTogSpotChallenge
  • (optional) Share the post to your story (bonus points for adding a before and after) and tag @thattogspot and #ThatTogSpotChallenge in the story
  • Entries close at midnight (UK time) on the last day of March

Judging:

The image will be judged on all the normal things (composition, clipped highlights or shadows, focus, exposure, editing quality (not quantity!) and white balance) in line with Print comps. As always, no purchased assets are allowed – these include overlays, composite elements and brushes. The judging will take place at the start of April and the judges decision is final.

Good luck!
